Communications Workers, Coalition of the Black Trade Unionist (CBTU)
In 1995, Ann Newman was a founding member of the Ontario Chapter of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, along with Beverley Johnson, Jay Nair, Dory Smith, and founding president June Veecock. Membership for the Ontario Coalition of Black Trade Unionists included Black workers from both public and private sector unions who wanted a forum in which to voice their concerns about racism in the workplaces and in unions, the need for support systems, and who wanted to develop strategies for change.
