Past President, Toronto & York Region Labour Council, 1985-88
Michael was born and raised in Toronto. He attended Ryerson Institute of Technology where he majored in Nucleonics and Electronics. He graduated in 1963 and began working in the Quality Engineering Department of Northern Electric.
In 1972, Michael became a Regional Representative with the Public Service Alliance of Canada, a position he held until 1977 when he joined the Labour Council.
In 1980, he was appointed Executive Director at the Labour Council and in 1985 was elected President. For family reasons, Michael chose to not seek re-election in 1988. However, during Michael’s tenure, the Council experienced an unprecedented expansion of programs, projects, staff, community involvement and public recognition.
Michael’s involvement in the labour movement has been extensive. In addition to him being the founding member and Past President of CAW Local 1535 (now UNIFOR), he was also a member of the Southern Ontario Newspaper Guild. He continues to be involved with the Labour Council as a member of the Toronto Retirees Network.
