Simon Sung

Toronto & York Region Labour Council, Chinese Workers Network

Simon Sung emigrated from Hong Kong to Toronto in 1997, where he began working at Ming Pao Toronto, a Hong Kong based Chinese-language newspaper. At the time, the workers at Ming Pao Toronto had previously failed twice to unionize. Under Simon’s leadership however, they finally formed a union, joining the Communications, Energy and Papers Union of Canada, CEP Local 87-M and fought to get their first contract in 2013.

Today, Simon works as a graphic and signboard designer at the Toronto and York Region Labour Council, where he also participates in the Chinese Workers Network’s continued efforts to promote social, economic, climate, and racial justice among the Chinese-Canadian population in the GTA.
